Sony A7 MK II South East Asia Launch Event

Sony Singapore hold a South East Asia (SEA) launch event for its new Sony A7 Mk II on 11 December 2014 at Garden by the Bay. The new A7 Mk II is a hot stuff currently because it is not only a full-frame mirrorless interchangable lens camera (ILC) , but it has integrated our most desired function – the 5-axis in-camara body image stabilizer that we had seen in the Olympus EM-1 and EM-5.

The event had the conference session as usual, and Sony Singapore also prepared enough A7 Mk II for all of us to try out in the Flower Dome. I will split the event into two posts where the first post is regarding the conference press and a quick view of the under development sample FE lenses, and I will give the Sony A7 MK II hands-on review in the following post (I need some time to filter the photos and write the review too 😉 ).

Surprisingly, the Sony A7 Mk II’s body is built of full alloy-magnesium which is only being used on the higher-end A7R and A7S previously. The shot below shows the alloy-magnesium body for A7 Mk II and its 5-axis in-body image stabilizer.

Besides the A7 Mk II, Sony also exhibits their lens collection for the E-mount camera which include those lenses that are under development as well.

Sony has slowly rolled out the lenses to cover the needs for its Alpha full frame mirrorless series camera, like the wide-angle 28mm and fisheye converter, the full range zoom FE 24-240mm, the rare Sony Macro prime lens FE 90mm G lens, and our desperately desired large aperture Distagon T* lens from Zeiss – FE 35mm F1.4 ZA. There is no sign of the E-mount full-frame prime lens 85mm and 135mm, but it is a good starting point that the Zeiss Distagon T* finally show up in the Sony E-mount lens collection.

    1. Yes, body only is selling at SGD 2,149 in Singapore compare to Japan’s SGD 2,100. If I remember correctly, Sony Singapore is having promotion for A7 ii that give a free extra battery worth SGD120.
